Terms of Service
Effective October 21, 2026
The short version
- If your agency has its own contract or purchase order terms with us, those win wherever they conflict with these.
- Your agency owns its data. We use it only to run the service for you. We never sell it, show ads, or train AI on it.
- Cancel any time and take everything with you. You keep access through the term you paid for. If your budget isn't funded for the next term, you can stop with no penalty.
- We don't ask you to indemnify us, and nothing here waives your immunities. Your state's law applies, in your state's courts.
- Your records are public records. Nothing here gets in the way of a public records request.
- If we find a security incident affecting your data, we tell you within 24 hours.
- We may share checklist templates we build for you with other agencies, unless you tell us they're confidential.
- The free checklists are a starting point, not legal advice. The demo is public and erased every hour, so don't put real information in it.
This summary is here to help. If it and the full terms below ever differ, the full terms control.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
6A LLC ("we" or "us") makes inspectorjay. These terms cover the website at inspectorjay.com, the demo at demo.inspectorjay.com, the free checklists, and the subscription service your agency uses in its own workspace, at an address such as youragency.inspectorjay.com (the "Service").
"Agency" means the government body or other organization that subscribes. "Users" are the people the Agency lets use the Service, such as its inspectors, office staff, and the contractors it invites. If you only visit the website or the demo, sections 9, 14, and 15 are the ones that matter to you.
2. Your agency's own terms come first
If the Agency has a written agreement with us, or issues a purchase order or contract under its procurement rules, those terms control wherever they conflict with these. Terms that the Agency is required by law to include in its contracts apply even if they aren't written here.
3. Fees and payment
Fees are as shown on our pricing page or in a written quote. The price for a term doesn't change once that term is paid for. Invoices are due within 30 days, or within the time your state's prompt payment law allows, if that's longer. We don't charge late fees or interest except as that law allows. If your Agency is tax-exempt, send us its certificate and we won't charge sales tax.
4. Term, renewal, and cancellation
- Term. A subscription runs for the year or month you've paid for.
- Renewal. A yearly subscription renews when you pay the next year's invoice, which we send at least 30 days before the term ends. A monthly subscription paid by card is charged each month until you cancel.
- Cancellation. You can cancel any time by email. You keep access until the end of the term you've paid for. We don't refund the rest of a term you cancel, except as section 11 says.
- Funding. If the Agency's governing body doesn't fund the Service for a later term, the Agency may end the subscription at the end of the last funded term by telling us in writing, with no penalty.
- Suspension. We may suspend the Service only if an invoice is more than 30 days past due after we've sent a written reminder, or if a User's activity threatens the security of the Service. We'll tell you first where we can, limit the suspension to what's needed, and restore access as soon as the problem is fixed. If we end the Service for any reason other than your breach, we refund any prepaid fees for the time remaining.
5. Your data
The Agency owns everything it and its Users put into the Service: photos, notes, checklist results, diaries, quantities, signatures, contacts, and the activity log ("Agency Data"). We use Agency Data only to provide, secure, and support the Service, to do what the Agency directs (such as sending report emails or webhooks), or as the law requires. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, use it to train AI models, or share it with other customers, except for checklist templates as section 10 describes.
The Agency can export its data at any time: each project as a zip file, and the full activity log. When the Service ends, we keep Agency Data for at least 90 days so the Agency can export it, and we'll provide a full export, including a database copy, on request. After that, we delete it, including backups, once the Agency confirms in writing.
If we receive a subpoena, court order, or records request for Agency Data, we'll refer it to the Agency and tell the Agency about it, unless the law forbids us to.
Our Privacy Policy describes what personal information the Service holds and who processes it.
6. Public records
We understand that the Agency is subject to public records and open meetings laws. Nothing in these terms stops the Agency from meeting them. These terms and our prices aren't confidential. If a request covers material we've marked confidential, such as our security documents, we ask the Agency to let us know before releasing it where the law allows, so we can explain which exemptions might apply. The decision is the Agency's.
7. Security
We protect Agency Data with reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, as described in our security packet, which we provide on request. Agency Data is stored in the United States. Each Agency's workspace has its own database, storage, and keys.
If we confirm a security incident that affects Agency Data, we'll tell the Agency within 24 hours, work with it to contain the incident, and give it the information it needs to meet its own notification duties. The third parties that process Agency Data are listed in our Privacy Policy. We'll tell the Agency at least 30 days before adding a new one that receives Agency Data.
8. Your responsibilities
The Agency decides who gets an account and is responsible for its Users' use of the Service. Users must not:
- use the Service to break the law or anyone's rights;
- upload malicious code, or try to reach data or systems they aren't authorized to;
- test the Service's security without our written permission (we welcome reports of problems at hello@inspectorjay.com); or
- resell the Service or let people outside the Agency use it, other than the contractors and others the Agency invites.
Inspection decisions and the records the Agency keeps are the Agency's own.
9. The website, free checklists, and demo
The checklists on this website are free to read, print, download, change, and share, including inside your agency's own forms. They're a starting point, not legal advice. Check them against your current permit and local standards before you rely on them.
The demo is public and uses fictional sample data. Anything you enter there can be seen by other visitors and is erased every hour, so don't enter real or personal information.
The website, checklists, and demo are provided as-is, without warranties, to the extent the law allows.
10. Our software
We own the software behind the Service. During its subscription, the Agency and its Users may use the Service for the Agency's work. Checklist templates we build for the Agency during setup are the Agency's to keep and use, during and after the subscription. We may also share them with other agencies, in the Service or on this website, with staff names and contact details removed, unless the Agency tells us in writing that a template is confidential. The Agency can tell us at any time, and we'll stop sharing that template from then on. If you send us suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
11. What we promise
We promise that the Service will work materially as described on this website and in our documentation, and that we won't materially reduce its features during a term you've paid for. If it doesn't, tell us. We'll fix it, and if we can't within 30 days, the Agency may cancel and get a refund of prepaid fees for the rest of the term.
We aim for the Service to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Our Accessibility Conformance Report is available on request, and we'll work promptly to fix accessibility problems you report.
We work to keep the Service available, and we schedule maintenance outside business hours where we can, but we can't promise it will never be interrupted. The inspector app keeps saving work offline during an interruption. Apart from the promises in these terms, the Service is provided as-is, to the extent the law allows.
12. Claims that the Service infringes
If a third party claims that the Service, as we provide it, infringes their patent, copyright, trademark, or trade secret, we'll defend the Agency against the claim and pay any resulting damages or settlement we agree to. We may instead change the Service so it doesn't infringe, get the rights for the Agency to keep using it, or, if neither is reasonable, end the subscription and refund prepaid fees for the rest of the term. We don't ask the Agency to indemnify us.
13. Limits on liability
Neither of us is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits. Each party's total liability under these terms is limited to the fees paid or owed for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. These limits don't apply to our obligations under section 12, to gross negligence or willful misconduct, or where the law doesn't allow them. For the Agency, they apply in addition to any immunity or limit the law gives it.
14. Immunity, governing law, and disputes
Nothing in these terms waives any immunity or protection the Agency has under the law, including any governmental tort claims act. These terms are governed by the laws of the state where the Agency is located, and disputes go to the courts there. For anyone who isn't a subscribing Agency, the laws of the state where 6A LLC is organized apply.
If there's a problem, we'll both try to settle it by talking first. Nothing here requires arbitration.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with its effective date, and email each Agency's admins at least 30 days before a material change takes effect. A change doesn't apply to a term the Agency has already paid for unless the Agency agrees in writing. It applies from the next renewal.
16. General
- We're an independent contractor, not the Agency's agent or employee.
- Neither of us may transfer these terms without the other's consent, except that we may transfer them to a company that takes over inspectorjay, after telling the Agency. If the Agency objects, it may cancel and get a refund of prepaid fees for the rest of the term.
- Neither of us is responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- Notices go by email: to us at hello@inspectorjay.com, and to the Agency's contact on file.
- Subject to section 2, these terms are the whole agreement about the Service. If part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term isn't a waiver of it.
- Sections 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, and 14 still apply after the subscription ends.
