Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
The short version
- This website has no cookies, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking scripts. Our web server keeps standard logs for security, for a short time.
- If you fill in a form, we keep what you typed so we can reply, or send the checklist updates you asked for. Nothing else.
- In an agency's inspectorjay workspace, the data belongs to the agency. We handle it only to run the service. The agency decides who sees it, how long it's kept, and what's released under public records law.
- The inspector app records your location only when you take a photo or collect a signature, never in the background.
- We never sell personal information or use it for advertising.
- Data is stored in the United States, on Amazon Web Services.
This summary is here to help. If it and the full policy below ever differ, the full policy controls.
1. Who we are
6A LLC ("we" or "us") makes inspectorjay. This policy covers the website at inspectorjay.com, the demo at demo.inspectorjay.com, and the inspectorjay service that agencies subscribe to, where each agency has its own workspace at an address like youragency.inspectorjay.com (the "Service"). Our Terms of Service use the same words.
2. This website
What we collect.
- Server logs. Like most web servers, ours records each request: your IP address, the page, the time, and your browser's description of itself. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, and delete them on a rolling basis, generally within 30 days.
- Forms. If you ask for a workspace, we keep your email address and anything else you fill in: your name, agency, state, and message. If you sign up for checklist updates, we keep your email address, your state or topic, and your agency if you give it. We also note which page the form was on.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep the conversation.
What we don't collect. The website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other companies: no analytics, no advertising pixels, no social media widgets, and no outside fonts or scripts.
How we use it. We use a request for a workspace only to reply to you and set it up. We use an updates sign-up only to email you when checklists change, along with occasional news about inspectorjay, a few times a year at most. To stop them, reply to any of those emails or write to us. We keep form submissions until you ask us to delete them, or until they're no longer needed.
3. The demo
The demo uses fictional sample accounts, so you don't give us anything to sign in. It sends no email. Anything you enter, including photos and your location when you take one, can be seen by other visitors until the demo is erased and reloaded at the top of every hour. Please don't enter real or personal information.
4. The Service
Whose data it is. Each agency's workspace holds that agency's records. We process them on the agency's behalf and follow its instructions. The agency decides who has access, how long records are kept, and what's released. Many of these records are public records under state law and may be released by the agency in response to a request.
What the Service holds.
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Users' names, email addresses, and roles | Sign-in, and showing who did what |
| Photos, with the location, time, and person who took them | Inspection records, and filing each photo under the right project |
| Checklist results, notes, deficiencies, daily diaries, and pay quantities | Inspection and payment records |
| Signatures, with the signer's printed name, the time, and the location | Acknowledgment of inspection reports |
| Names and email addresses of project contacts, such as contractors and owners | Sending reports and notices |
| An activity log of every change, sign-in, and sign-out, with IP addresses for sign-ins | The record of who changed what and when, and account security |
| Each user's signed-in devices: device type, sign-in time, IP address, and last use | Letting users and admins sign out a lost phone |
The Service doesn't collect payment card numbers, Social Security numbers, health information, or criminal justice information.
Location. The inspector app asks for your phone's location only at the moment you take a photo or collect a signature, and only with your browser's permission. It doesn't track you in the background. Because records carry a location and time, office staff can see where and when inspections were recorded, for example on the Today map.
Your phone and browser. The inspector app saves your work on your phone until it uploads, so nothing is lost without a signal. The Service uses one cookie, to keep you signed in. It uses no tracking or advertising cookies.
How we use it. Only to provide, secure, and support the Service, and to do what the agency directs. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, use it to train AI models, or share it with other customers.
When it's shared.
- As the agency directs. Report emails to contractors and owners, webhooks to the agency's permitting system, and feeds to the agency's GIS go only where the agency's admins set them up.
- With the service providers below, only for the purpose shown.
- When the law requires it. We refer requests for agency records to the agency, and tell the agency unless the law forbids us to.
5. Service providers
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | All Service data; email addresses and email contents | Hosting, storage, backups, and email delivery, in one US region |
| OpenStreetMap Foundation | Your IP address and the map area you're viewing, sent by your browser | Map backgrounds |
| US National Weather Service | Project locations and dates, sent by our server | Weather for daily diaries |
| Let's Encrypt | Each workspace's web address | Security certificates |
If an agency connects its own systems, such as an ArcGIS parcel layer or a webhook receiver, the information those connections send goes to the agency's systems, under the agency's control.
6. How long we keep it
- Agency records are kept until the agency's retention schedule says otherwise. The Service never deletes them on its own.
- Backups are kept for 90 days.
- Sign-in codes and expired sessions are deleted automatically.
- When a subscription ends, the agency gets a full export, and we then delete its data, including backups, as our Terms of Service describe.
7. Security
Every connection to the website and the Service uses HTTPS. Each agency's workspace has its own database, storage, and keys. Sign-in uses a one-time code sent by email, so there are no passwords to steal. If we confirm a security incident affecting an agency's data, we tell the agency within 24 hours. Agencies can ask us for our full security packet.
8. Your choices and requests
For information you gave us through this website, you can ask us to show you, correct, or delete it by writing to hello@inspectorjay.com. We'll answer within 30 days.
For records in an agency's workspace, please contact that agency. Those records belong to it, and some may have to be kept under public records law. If you write to us, we'll pass your request to the agency and help it respond.
We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, and we don't treat anyone differently for making a request.
9. Children
inspectorjay is for agency staff and the people they work with. It isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes here with a new effective date, and email each agency's admins at least 30 days before a material change takes effect.
